Glenn Tackett embarked on a distinguished 36-year career in education and coaching, starting in 1969 at Whiteville High School where he led both boys and girls basketball teams. He moved on to Munford High School in 1975, further establishing his coaching reputation. His journey took him to Dyersburg High School in 1977, where he took the helm of the boys’ basketball and baseball teams. In 1981, Tackett initiated the boys’ golf program at Covington High School, showcasing his versatility and dedication to student athletes across various sports for two years.

Tackett’s tenure at Humboldt High School, beginning in the early 1980s, was marked by significant achievements over 14 years. He coached boys' basketball, golf, and baseball, leading his basketball teams to 10 Region tournament and 2 Sub-state appearances, highlighting his exceptional ability to develop competitive teams. His efforts were recognized when he was named the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association (TACA) Coach of the Year in basketball.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Tackett served as Assistant Principal at Humboldt from 1994 until 1997, exemplifying his leadership both on and off the field. The next chapter of his career unfolded at the University School of Jackson in 2000 and later at Franklin Road Academy in Nashville, 2001, where he continued to influence young athletes by coaching boys' basketball and both boys' and girls' golf. Under his guidance, the Franklin Road Academy golf teams secured the TSSAA State Championship title four times, and his basketball team made memorable state tournament appearances.

Tackett's coaching prowess earned him the State Golf Coach of the Year award four times. In 2005, he was honored as the Golf Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), underscoring his impact not only at state but also at national levels. Although he retired from teaching in 2006, Tackett's passion for coaching and mentoring young athletes led him to continue coaching until 2014.

In recognition of his exceptional service and contributions to high school sports, Glenn Tackett was inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2022, cementing his legacy as a dedicated coach and educator who has left an indelible mark on TSSAA and the lives of countless student-athletes across Tennessee.
