Inducted 2022

Ted Anderson, born on March 10, 1944, dedicated over four decades of his life to coaching and mentoring young athletes in Memphis, Tennessee. His remarkable career primarily unfolded at Hamilton and Frederick Douglass High Schools, where he not only served as a coach but also took on roles as an Athletic Director and Administrative Assistant to the principal for 36 and 32 years, respectively.

Anderson's coaching tenure was marked by his versatility, leading teams in basketball, football, volleyball, boys’ cross country, and boys’ track and field. However, it was his accomplishments in boys' basketball that stood out vividly. Over the years, his teams amassed over 500 victories, a testament to his coaching acumen and the positive impact he had on his athletes.

One of the pinnacle achievements of his career came in 1991 when his Hamilton boys' basketball team clinched the TSSAA State Championship. This victory not only exemplified his coaching prowess but also his dedication to excellence and the development of student-athletes. In recognition of his achievements and contributions, Anderson was honored with a TSSAA Coach’s Award the same year, followed by a TSSAA Distinguished Service Award in 1992, underscoring his significant service to the TSSAA and high school sports in Tennessee.

In a fitting tribute to his legacy, the gymnasium floor at Hamilton High School was renamed in his honor in 2016, ensuring that his contribution to the school and its athletics would be remembered for generations to come. Sadly, Anderson passed away on September 7, 2021, leaving behind a lasting legacy celebrated by his 2022 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame.
