Joe George

Joe George's career as a coach, marked by dedication and success, led to his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2019. Born on July 1, 1943, George invested almost four decades as a head baseball and assistant football coach at Marshall Co. High School in Lewisburg. His extensive career in baseball culminated in an impressive record of 803 wins against 262 losses.

Under his guidance, the baseball teams made 12 remarkable appearances at the TSSAA State Baseball tournaments. His strategic coaching and mentorship propelled the team to finish as State Runner-Up four times, showcasing their competitive spirit and skill under pressure. The pinnacle of George's coaching career in baseball was winning the TSSAA State Baseball Championship three times: in successive years, 1983, 1993, and 1994, cementing his legacy within the TSSAA community.

Aside from his baseball accomplishments, George also significantly contributed to football as the Defensive Coordinator under fellow TSSAA Hall of Fame coach, Bob Edens. His expertise and strategic acumen were instrumental in assisting the Tigers football team secure a state championship in 1984. This cross-disciplinary success in both baseball and football highlights George's versatile coaching capabilities and his profound impact on student-athletes.

His outstanding contributions to high school sports were further recognized with his induction into the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2005. Joe George retired in May of 2009, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in high school athletics, marked by his significant service to TSSAA and an enduring influence on the lives of countless young athletes.
