Inducted 2019

Tommy Colvin, born on December 3, 1951, dedicated over 40 years of his life to coaching girls' basketball in West Tennessee, leaving a lasting legacy that merited his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2019. His coaching journey was most notable at Humboldt High School in Humboldt, TN, although he also contributed significantly at the University School of Jackson, Trenton Peabody, and Crockett Co. high schools.

Throughout his illustrious career, Colvin's teams made seven appearances at the TSSAA State Basketball tournament, showcasing his teams' consistent excellence and competitiveness. In 2004, his team from Peabody High School captured the State Runner-Up title, marking a significant achievement in his coaching career. However, it was at Humboldt High School where Colvin's impact was most profound. There, he led his teams to two TSSAA State Championships in 1979 and 1985, with the 1979 team winning the last TSSAA girls' 6-on-6 State Championship, a historic accomplishment in TSSAA history.

Beyond his coaching successes, Colvin extended his influence into administrative roles. He served as Principal at Humboldt High School from 1991 until 1996, during which time he was honored with the Governor's Award for Excellence as Principal in both 1995 and 1996. His commitment to education and athletic excellence seamlessly blended, impacting many lives beyond the basketball court.

After an impressive span of coaching in over 900 high school basketball games, Colvin transitioned to administrative roles, serving as an assistant principal and assistant girls' basketball coach at Crockett Co. High School. His career reflects not only a deep passion for the game of basketball but also a profound commitment to enriching the lives of young athletes through sports and education. His induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2019 stands as a testament to his outstanding service and contributions to TSSAA and the broader Tennessee athletic community.
