Ken Colquette

Inducted 2014

Ken Colquette’s dedication and contributions to high school football over four decades culminated with his prestigious 2014 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. Born on August 3, 1947, Colquette embarked on a significant journey that would leave a lasting impact on high school football, particularly in Tennessee. His coaching career began outside of his eventual mainstay, taking initial steps in South Carolina and Georgia, where he started to distinguish himself as a talented football coach.

In 1976, Colquette’s journey led him to Cleveland, TN, where he took on the role of Offensive Coordinator, beginning his influential tenure in Tennessee high school football. However, it was in 1980 when Colquette’s legacy truly began to take shape. He started coaching at Marion County High School and over the next seventeen years as its head coach, he forged a highly successful program. His leadership and strategic acumen brought the school four TSSAA State Championships and secured runner-up positions twice, marking an era of dominance and setting high standards for success.

In 2001, Colquette returned to his roots at Grundy Co. High School, his alma mater, where he serendipitously served in dual capacities as Principal and Athletic Director for eight years, alongside being the football coach for four years. This dual role highlighted his multi-faceted contribution to high school athletics, demonstrating his commitment not just to coaching but also to the broader educational and administrative aspects of school athletics.

Though he retired from full-time education in 2008, Colquette’s passion for football coaching never wavered. He returned to the field as the head football coach at Sequatchie County High School, where he continued to impart his knowledge and passion for the game to younger generations.

Ken Colquette’s induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2014 celebrated not just the achievements and championships but also recognized his enduring influence on student-athletes, his contributions to the schools he served, and his unwavering dedication to the sport of football in Tennessee. His career stands as a testament to the impact a devoted coach can have on the lives of many, ensuring his legacy in TSSAA’s storied history.
