Chic Nute

Inducted 2014


Chic Nute’s distinguished career in education and athletics, spanning nearly 40 years, culminated in his 2014 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. Over the years, Nute dedicated himself to fostering athletics within Tennessee schools, an endeavor that positively influenced countless young athletes. His journey in educational athletics began humbly yet grew to encompass roles of significant leadership and impact.

For 17 years, Nute served diligently as the Athletic Director at various high schools including Kingsbury, Calloway County, and Munford. His responsibilities during this period laid the groundwork for what would be a deeply impactful career. The breadth of his influence widened as he took on the role of Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Munford Middle School for four years, followed by a significant tenure of fifteen years at Brighton High School.

Nute’s commitment to improving sports at the middle school level was further demonstrated through his 12-year service as the District Coordinator for the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association (TMSAA). But perhaps most noteworthy was his over 20 years of service as a TSSAA District and Region Tournament Director. In this capacity, Nute played a crucial role in the organization and execution of district and regional athletic competitions, ensuring they were conducted fairly and effectively.

Later in his career, Nute expanded his service to athletics on a broader scale, becoming the County-wide Athletic Director in Tipton County. Here, he also assumed the role of Assistant Transportation Supervisor, showcasing his dedication to supporting the logistical aspects of school sports programs.

Chic Nute’s induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2014 was a testament to his longstanding commitment and service to school athletics in Tennessee. Through decades of leadership and dedication, Nute not only contributed to the sports community but also shaped the lives of countless young athletes, leaving an indelible mark on school sports within the state.
