Sherry Hooks, born on May 22, 1955, carved out a remarkable coaching career that led to her prestigious induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2013. Over a span of twenty-one years, Hooks showcased her exceptional coaching abilities at Sullivan South High School as the head volleyball coach. During her tenure, she amassed an impressive tally of over 900 career victories, a testament to her dedication and skill in nurturing talent and leading her teams to success.

Her teams' consistent excellence was highlighted by eighteen appearances in TSSAA State Tournaments. Under her guidance, the volleyball teams clinched three TSSAA State Championships in the years 1984, 1995, and 1996, marking significant milestones in both her career and the school's history in the sport. Additionally, her teams were TSSAA State Runner-Up in 1985 and 1998, further emphasizing their competitive prowess at the highest levels of high school volleyball in Tennessee.

Beyond her on-court successes, Coach Hooks played a pivotal role in the promotion and development of girls’ volleyball within the broader scope of high school athletics. She was instrumental in transitioning girls' volleyball from a club status to a TSSAA sanctioned sport, a move that underscored her commitment to providing equitable opportunities for female athletes. Furthermore, she helped initiate the first Tennessee East/West All-Star volleyball game in 1988, contributing to the sport's growing recognition and competitiveness across the state.

Her teams also achieved a remarkable record of 63 consecutive match wins from 1995 to 1997, the second-longest streak in the state, showcasing the dominance and consistency of her squads. Besides volleyball, Hooks demonstrated her versatile coaching expertise by leading girls' basketball, cross country, and track and field teams throughout her distinguished career.
