William "Mike" Bone, born on December 22, 1950, embarked on a remarkable journey that spanned nearly four decades, dedicating his life to teaching and coaching girls’ basketball. His illustrious career began modestly at a junior high school in Franklin County, where he spent two formative years before making a significant move in 1978. Bone's transition to Franklin Co. High School marked the beginning of an era where his passion for the sport and his commitment to his athletes began to truly flourish.

For 16 years, Bone honed his skills and nurtured talent at Franklin Co. High School, eventually expanding his influence to other institutions such as Columbia, Bradley Central, and Shelbyville high schools, each benefiting from his coaching prowess. His dedication and strategic acumen were particularly evident through his teams' performances in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) State Tournaments. Bone had the unique ability to take three different Class AAA girls’ basketball teams—Franklin Co., Columbia, and Bradley Central—to the TSSAA State Tournament, attesting to his knack for nurturing winning teams. Under his guidance, his teams made a total of five appearances at the TSSAA State Tournament.

Bone’s coaching career is also marked by an impressive record of 564 wins against 224 losses, a testament to his effectiveness and longevity in the coaching field. Despite retiring in 2006, his passion for the game and his commitment to fostering young talent led him back to Franklin Co. in 2010, this time as an assistant girls’ basketball coach.

In recognition of his immense contribution to high school sports and his service to the TSSAA, William "Mike" Bone was rightfully inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2013. This accolade not only celebrates his achievements but also acknowledges the profound impact he has had on high school basketball in Tennessee, inspiring both athletes and fellow coaches alike with his dedication, leadership, and love for the game.
