Vic Varallo, born on April 11, 1922, embarked on a distinguished career that spanned several decades, culminating in his 2005 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. His career in education and coaching started in 1951 and lasted until his retirement in 1989, marking 38 years of service. Varallo's early roles included coaching at East High School from 1951 to 1972 where he headed the football, basketball, track, and cross-country teams. Under his guidance, the track team achieved remarkable success, winning two TSSAA State Championships, 18 District Championships, 12 Regional Championships, and numerous relay events including the Banner, Optimist, Memphis, and Furman Relays. His cross-country teams also captured numerous Regional and State Championships.

Throughout his career, Varallo contributed to several other schools, including Pearl Cohn High School (1972-1980), Hillsboro High School (1980-1982), DuPont High School (1982-1988), and Overton High School (1988-1989). Aside from his coaching duties, Varallo devoted 25 years to officiating basketball. His officiating career was equally impressive, working 15 District Tournaments, 10 Regional Tournaments, and officiating in 3 TSSAA State Championships.

Beyond his coaching and officiating roles, Varallo's service to TSSAA and to athletics in Tennessee was multifaceted. He served as head coach for both boys' and girls' sports, including track and cross-country, and took on responsibilities as an athletic director. He also officiated women’s basketball, worked AAU National Championships, and served as the Director of Track Meets at the District and Region levels, as well as handling duties for Optimist Relays and Regional and State Decathlons.

Varallo's sporting journey began at Father Ryan High School, where he played football and basketball. He later became a starting member of the Ole Miss basketball team as a freshman and earned All-OVC honors in football. His induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2005 was a fitting tribute to a career defined by dedication, excellence, and a profound impact on high school athletics in Tennessee.
