Hester Gibbs, born on October 6, 1937, embarked on a distinguished career in education and sports, predominantly at Lebanon High School from 1960 to 1991. He initially served as an assistant football coach for a decade before taking the helm of the baseball team between 1961 and 1963, securing a district championship in his first year. However, his most notable contribution came as the head boys' basketball coach from 1963 to 1991, where he amassed an impressive record of 500 wins and 302 losses. Under his guidance, the team captured five district championships and made three appearances in the TSSAA State Tournament, highlighting his ability to lead and develop competitive teams.

Furthermore, Gibbs also led the boys' golf team to a district championship in 1981 and followed it with another district championship as the head football coach in 1982, showcasing his versatility and excellence in coaching across different sports. His contributions to high school sports were acknowledged through several accolades, including being named the Tennessean Mid-State Coach of the Year in basketball twice and receiving the 7AAA District Coach of the Year honors in football.

Beyond coaching, Gibbs dedicated 44 years of his life to serving as a TSSAA official in football, baseball, and softball, further cementing his commitment and service to high school athletics in Tennessee. His extensive career not only in coaching but also in officiating exemplified his deep-rooted passion for sports and his enduring impact on young athletes.

In recognition of his remarkable contributions and service to the TSSAA and high school sports as a whole, Hester Gibbs was rightfully inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2005. His legacy is a testament to his dedication, leadership, and positive influence on countless student-athletes over three decades.
