Catherine M. Neely's illustrious career, prominently marked by her 1993 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame, showcases her substantial contributions to high school sports in Tennessee. Born on September 25, 1942, Neely embarked on a remarkable journey in education and sports, dedicating 33 years to teaching (1964-1997) and an impressive 40 years to coaching (1964-2004) at East Ridge High School.

Throughout her tenure, Neely's commitment to excellence in athletics was evident in her role as a volleyball coach. Her leadership propelled East Ridge High School to secure 14 District Championships, 13 Regional Championships, and 14 Sectional Wins. The school made 14 appearances in the TSSAA State Tournament, twice earning the title of State Runners-Up in 1988 and 1989 before clinching a TSSAA State Championship. Neely's coaching record was a monumental 1115-402, establishing her as a foremost figure in high school volleyball.

Beyond her coaching achievements, Neely served the TSSAA with distinction as an official for seven years and held the position of Athletic Director from 1990 onwards at East Ridge High School. Her service extended to various roles including tournament director and chairperson on numerous occasions. Neely's expertise and dedication led her to be #3 in the nation for most wins and #1 in Tennessee. She received 14 Coach of the Year honors, 2 nominations for National Coach of the Year, and coached two All-Star teams, underscoring her national recognition.

In addition to her TSSAA Hall of Fame induction, Neely's accolades include inductions into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame (2000), Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame (1996), National Association of Athletic Coaches (1996), and Hixson High School Hall of Fame (2004). Her legacy was further cemented with the naming of East Ridge High School Gymnasium in her honor, a lasting tribute to her profound impact on high school sports in Tennessee.
