David Collie, Jr.'s illustrious career in education and coaching, spanning from 1973 to 2003, was rightly celebrated with his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2004. His career began at Wayne County High School, where he served from 1973 to 1976 before moving to East Robertson High School until 1993. At East Robertson, Coach Collie led the boys’ basketball team to nine TSSAA State Tournament appearances, securing the school's first-ever TSSAA State Championship in 1983. His tenure at East Robertson was highlighted by a remarkable run of four TSSAA State Championships won in 1983, 1987, 1988, and 1989.

Following his success at East Robertson, Coach Collie moved to Riverdale High School from 1993 to 1996 and then to Columbia Central High School from 1996 to 2003. At Columbia Central, he continued his winning ways, guiding the boys' basketball team to win their district all seven years he was there, claiming the regional title four times, earning three TSSAA State Tournament berths, and finishing once as the TSSAA State Runner-Up.

Throughout his 30-year career, Coach Collie's teams showcased exceptional performance, amassing an overall record of 655 wins and 213 losses, a winning percentage of 75%. His leadership on the court led his teams to 21 District Finals, 17 District Championships, 12 Regional Championships, and a total of 12 TSSAA State Tournament appearances. Under his guidance, teams reached the TSSAA State finals six times. Furthermore, he had the privilege of coaching three Mr. Basketball winners, three Mr. Football Winners, and two Mr. Basketball Finalists.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Coach Collie contributed to the broader athletic community by serving as President of the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association (TACA) for a year in 1989. His commitment to athletics and education was recognized nationally in December 2001 when he was chosen to carry the Olympic Torch, a testament to his inspirational impact on students and players throughout his career.

David Collie's extraordinary contributions as a coach and educator within the TSSAA framework undoubtedly merited his induction into the Hall of Fame, commemorating a career that shaped the lives of many young athletes in Tennessee.
