Ted B. Wilson, born on May 29, 1934, embarked on a remarkable 35-year career in education and coaching from 1958 until his retirement in 1993. His journey began at Maryville Junior High School, where he coached football, basketball, and track & field between 1958 and 1963. Wilson transitioned to Maryville High School in 1963, further showcasing his versatility by coaching baseball, boys' and girls' basketball, and track & field, concluding in 1982. His final coaching chapter unfolded at Dobyns-Bennett High School from 1982 to 1993, focusing on football.

Wilson's contributions to school sports, particularly football, were monumental. Holding an admirable record of 150-25-2 over 15 years, he led his teams to three TSSAA State Championships (1970, 1976, 1978) during his tenure at Maryville High School. His teams were twice state runner-ups and made nine TSSAA State Football Playoff appearances, underscoring his consistent excellence and strategic acumen. His service to school sports and the broader athletic community was recognized through numerous awards and honors. These include the East Tennessee Chapter of the National Football Foundation Service Award in 1981, induction into the Maryville College Athletic Wall of Fame that same year, and being named the Kellog Coach of the Year in 1977 and 1979. Furthermore, Wilson was honored as the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year five times, and in 1997, he was inducted into the Blount County Sports Hall of Fame.

Ted B. Wilson's outstanding dedication and achievements culminated in his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2007. His legacy is not only a testament to his success on the field but also reflects his significant service to the TSSAA and its mission to foster sportsmanship and athletic excellence among Tennessee's youth. Through decades of leadership, mentorship, and inspiration, Wilson has left an indelible mark on the TSSAA and the many lives he touched throughout his illustrious career.
