James G. Warmbrod, born on August 14, 1915, led an impressive career that culminated in his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2007. Warmbrod's journey in sports began at Franklin County High School, where he showcased his athleticism in football, basketball, and baseball. His talents on the football field followed him to Louisiana State University, where he played on three Sugar Bowl teams (1935, 1936, 1937) and served as team co-captain in 1937.

After his time in college, Warmbrod returned to Tennessee, working as a Civilian Conservation Corporation Technician in Wartburg from 1939 to 1941. His commitment to service continued through his enlistment in the United States Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945, demonstrating Warmbrod's dedication to his country during World War II.

Warmbrod's most enduring contribution to sports came through his involvement with the TSSAA. Starting in 1938, he embarked on a remarkable tenure as a TSSAA official that spanned 58 years until 1996, focusing primarily on football. He was a revered figure in the Southwest Football Officials Association, where he took on the role of TSSAA Supervisor of Officials, further solidifying his influence and leadership in high school sports officiating in Tennessee.

In addition to his significant contributions as an official, Warmbrod also served as a clock operator for Lambuth University football, bridging his lifelong love for the game across different levels of competition. His profound impact on sports in Tennessee was recognized in 1996 when he was inducted into the Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame.

James Warmbrod passed away on his birthday, August 14, 2002, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to football and high school sports officiating that was honored by his TSSAA Hall of Fame induction in 2007. His storied career reflects a lifetime of service to both the sport of football and the young athletes of Tennessee.
