Johnny Morgan, born on March 20, 1954, dedicated over three decades of his life to coaching and teaching at McMinn Central High School, establishing a distinguished career that was celebrated with his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2011. His journey as the girls’ basketball coach at McMinn Central began in 1978, marking the start of an illustrious tenure that saw him amass more than 700 career victories, translating to an impressive overall winning percentage of 71%.

Morgan's coaching prowess led his teams, affectionately known as the Chargerettes, to an astounding record of achievement. The Chargerettes dominated the court under Morgan’s guidance, securing 11 District titles, ten Regional crowns, and making 20 appearances in sub-state competitions. His strategic acumen and leadership were instrumental in propelling his teams to the TSSAA State Tournament eleven times throughout his career.

Highlight moments in Morgan's career included being a three-time TSSAA State Runner-Up in 1997, 2004, and 2010, culminating in the ultimate accolade of leading his team to victory as the TSSAA Class AA State Champions in 2011. These achievements underscored his exceptional contribution to high school basketball and were complemented by numerous "Coach of the Year" honors, further attesting to his skill, dedication, and influence in the realm of Tennessee high school athletics.

Beyond his high school coaching career, Morgan was celebrated as an All-American basketball player at Tennessee-Wesleyan College, where he also earned recognition through his induction into its Hall of Fame.
