Morris Rogers, born on June 9, 1950, embarked on a distinguished career in education and sports that spanned over several decades, leading to his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2010. His journey began as a teacher and coach in 1973, positions he held for 15 years at various schools including Fairview High School, Page High School, Lakeview Ft. Oglethorpe High School in Georgia, Richland High School, and Huntland High School. During this period, Rogers not only demonstrated his coaching prowess as an assistant football coach and later as a head football coach but also profoundly impacted the lives of countless students and athletes.
Transitioning from coaching, Rogers served as the principal of Huntland School for 13 years (1988-2001), where he furthered his reputation as a dedicated administrator. His leadership skills were further recognized during his tenure as the athletic director for the Franklin County School System from 2001 to 2009. In this role, Rogers was responsible for training, evaluating, and supervising over 100 county coaches annually, showcasing his commitment to excellence in athletic programs across the county.
A notable highlight of Rogers' career was his decade-long service on the TSSAA Board of Control from 1992 to 2002. His contributions were paramount in shaping policies and making decisions that enhanced high school athletics across Tennessee. Rogers' achievements were recognized through several accolades, including being named the 2008 TSSAA Athletic Director of the Year and the 2001 TSSAA Principal of the Year for the 4th Athletic District. His commitment to excellence did not go unnoticed, culminating in his well-deserved induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame, celebrating a career dedicated to nurturing young athletes and contributing significantly to high school sports in Tennessee.
