Larry Ricker

Larry N. Ricker, born on March 2, 1954, and passing on April 20, 2010, left an indelible mark on high school sports in Tennessee over his 29-year career in education and coaching, lasting from 1978 to 2007. His journey began at Greystone Elementary School, where from 1978 to 1983, he coached girls' basketball. Ricker's trajectory then led him to South Greene High School, where his tenure from 1983 to 2007 became synonymous with excellence in girls' basketball, along with contributions to football and baseball.

Ricker's legacy is most prominent in his achievement of four TSSAA State Championships in girls' basketball, assembling a staggering career record of 648 wins against merely 105 losses. This includes leading his teams to 15 district championships and 12 region titles. His teams' consistent success earned him a place in the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2010.

Beyond these achievements, Ricker's girls' basketball teams were state runners-up three times and made an impressive 15 trips to the TSSAA Girls' State Basketball Tournament. Demonstrating his prowess, he coached teams to undefeated seasons in 1986-1987 and 1992-1993. His commitment to excellence was further recognized as he was named Coach of the Year in District 1-AA or District II-AA 19 times over 21 years.

Ricker's influence extended beyond basketball. As head football coach at South Greene for eight seasons, his leadership ensured that the team reached the TSSAA playoffs every year.

Upon retiring after the 2006-2007 school year, Larry N. Ricker left a legacy of commitment, success, and profound impact on the lives of his students, both on and off the field. His posthumous induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2010 serves as a testament to his contributions and dedication to high school athletics in Tennessee.
