Tommy Griffith's illustrious career, spanning over three decades, culminated in a well-deserved induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2001. Beginning his journey in 1958 at Cohn High School and concluding in 1996 at John Overton High School, Griffith dedicated 38 years to nurturing young athletes in a variety of sports, including basketball, football, baseball, golf, and girls' track and field. His tenure at John Overton High School was particularly notable for achieving notable success in basketball and girls' track & field, with his teams securing four district championships, three regional championships, four TSSAA State Tournament appearances, and a memorable TSSAA State Runner-Up finish in 1994. Furthermore, his commitment to girls' athletics was underscored by leading the track & field team to a state runner-up position in 1983 and to the pinnacle of success as TSSAA State Champions in 1985.

Griffith's contributions to TSSAA extended beyond coaching, as he served as an athletic director for ten years and officiated for eight years across various sports including track & field, golf, basketball, and football, officiating in numerous state meets and tournaments. This multifaceted engagement with TSSAA highlighted his deep commitment to high school sports and the development of student-athletes across Tennessee.

Moreover, Griffith's excellence was recognized through the awarding of Coach of the Year honors seven times. His dedication to the athletic community also included directing numerous region and district basketball tournaments, further illustrating his influence in shaping the landscape of high school sports in Tennessee. Even after his retirement, Griffith continued to contribute to TSSAA, serving on the Right Team staff, ensuring his legacy would influence future generations.
