Pearl School was established as a grammar school for black students in 1883. In 1897 it became Pearl High School. The school closed in 1983 with the creation of Pearl-Cohn High School. The former building now serves as the home of Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet School and belongs to the National Register of Historic Places.
