Established in 1950 as the successor of earlier institutions such as Brownsville Colored Normal School (1883-1887), Dunbar School (1890-1919) and Haywood County Training School (1920-1949). Closed in 1970 when consolidated to form Haywood County High School. The building now serves as the Central Office for Haywood County school system.
