Lamar Rogers embarked on a distinguished coaching career in 1976, a journey that led to his well-deserved induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2009. Born on January 1, 1952, Rogers dedicated over three decades to fostering excellence in high school athletics, exemplifying commitment and passion in his role as a teacher and coach at Clarkrange High School from 1976 until his Hall of Fame induction and beyond.

Throughout his career, Rogers was instrumental in shaping the girls' basketball program at Clarkrange High School, amassing over 900 victories. His exceptional coaching skills translated into an astonishing average of 28 wins per season. Under his guidance, the team made 19 appearances in the TSSAA State Tournament, capturing 8 State Championships and establishing Clarkrange as a powerhouse in girls’ high school basketball in Tennessee.

In 2009 alone, Coach Rogers led the Lady Buffaloes to clinch their eighth TSSAA Class A State Championship, a testament to his enduring success and influence on the court. His accomplishments positioned him as the coach with the most state basketball championships among active coaches for both boys and girls, highlighting his unparalleled contribution to high school sports in Tennessee.

Rogers’ service to TSSAA and his exceptional coaching talent did not go unnoticed beyond the state level. He was honored as the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Southeast Coach of the Year in 1992 and served twice as a coach for the Tennessee All-Star team. His achievements also earned him recognition as the TN Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year twice and appointment as the Tennessean Coach of the Year and District Coach of the Year multiple times.

Beyond victories and titles, Coach Rogers’ legacy is also reflected in the success of his players, with 35 receiving college scholarships, 23 achieving All-State selections, and 4 earning Honorable Mention All-American titles. His dedication to excellence in high school athletics not only propelled his teams to victory but also significantly contributed to the TSSAA’s mission of fostering competitive spirit and sportsmanship among young athletes in Tennessee.
