Richard "Dickie" Warren, born on June 25, 1934, in Knoxville, Tennessee, left an indelible mark on high school sports, culminating in his 1995 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. Over a span of 43 years, from 1957 to 2000, Warren dedicated himself to coaching, beginning his career at Sullivan High School. Here, he coached boys' basketball, football, and track and field until 1968. Subsequently, he transitioned to Sullivan Central High School, where he remained until his retirement in 2000. Notably, his tenure in boys’ basketball at Sullivan Central was marked by an impressive record of 922 wins against 420 losses.

Warren's coaching achievements earned him a place not just in state history but also on a national level. At the time of his Hall of Fame induction, he was recognized as having the eighth most wins nationally in boys' high school basketball and the second most in the state of Tennessee. His excellence in coaching was further acknowledged through 15 Coach of the Year honors, including being named Upper East Tennessee Coach of the Year three times.

A former athlete himself, Warren played both football and baseball at East Tennessee State University, achieving All Ohio Valley Conference recognition in 1956. His contribution to high school sports was further honored by his selections to coach the TSSAA All-Star game twice and his 1998 induction into the Upper East Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.

Richard Warren's profound impact and service to the TSSAA were recognized by his peers, athletes, and the wider sports community throughout his career. His legacy continues to inspire future generations long after his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 1995.
