His journey with the TSSAA began in 1944, marking the start of a 21-year tenure as a TSSAA official that would span until 1965. During this period, Hutton established himself as a respected figure in high school athletics, demonstrating an unwavering dedication to the integrity of sports. His commitment extended beyond the playing field as he took on the role of TSSAA Supervisor for the Memphis Basketball Officials’ Association, where he oversaw the upholding of game standards and nurtured the development of upcoming officials.
Hutton’s influence was not confined to high school sports; he also made his mark in college athletics, serving as the Commissioner of the Tennessee Collegiate Athletic Conference (TCAC) for a decade. Subsequently, he continued to shape collegiate sports as the Commissioner of the TranSouth Athletic Conference for another ten years.
