Don Lady, born on September 18, 1939, had a distinguished career that led to his 2011 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. With a career spanning over four decades, Lady's commitment to high school sports in Tennessee, particularly baseball, was unparalleled. He served diligently as a high school baseball umpire for 40 years, showcasing his passion and dedication to the game. His expertise wasn't limited to high school levels; Lady also officiated at the college level, bringing his knowledge and fairness to a wider audience.

Beyond the baseball diamond, Lady contributed significantly to his local umpire's association as an Assigning Officer. His role was crucial in ensuring that games were officiated by skilled and fair umpires, thus maintaining the integrity of the sport. Moreover, Lady's influence extended into athletic administration within Sullivan County. As a staunch advocate for sports, he played a pivotal role in the development of the state Athletic Director's Association, which aims to support and improve the quality of athletic programs across Tennessee.

Throughout his over 30-year tenure in education, Lady wore multiple hats as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and athletic director, touching the lives of countless students and athletes. In 1980, he was appointed as the assistant principal and athletic director at Sullivan East High School, positions he held with distinction until his retirement in 2002. His exemplary service was recognized in 1999 when he was named the A. F. Bridges Athletic Director of the Year in District 1-AA.

Lady was not only known for his administrative and officiating roles but also for his contributions to professional development. He was certified to teach NIAAA Leadership Training Courses and actively taught at the state AD Conference, further influencing the realm of athletics administration in Tennessee positively. His on-field achievements included officiating numerous District and Region baseball tournaments, with his cumulative experience leading him to work his third TSSAA State Baseball Tournament in 2009.

Don Lady's induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2011 was a testament to his significant contributions and unwavering service to high school sports within Tennessee.
