Junior Ward's illustrious career, spanning several decades, culminated in a well-deserved induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 1999. Born on August 5, 1941, Ward began his journey with TSSAA as an official in 1965, showcasing his dedication to high school sports across Tennessee. Over the years, his contribution to football was monumental, having officiated over 300 high school games, which included 30 playoff games, four semi-finals, and two TSSAA Championships. His commitment wasn't limited to just one sport; in basketball, he officiated for 17 consecutive years, including 13 regional tournaments, 12 sub-state competitions, and notably, the TSSAA Boys’ State Tournament in 1983.

Ward's versatility as an official extended to track and field as well as cross-country, illustrating his broad impact on high school athletics. Beyond his officiating roles, Ward's career in education and coaching spanned 39 years, starting from 1965. He served in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools until 2000 before moving to Nashville Academy, where he continued to shape young minds.

Notably, Ward's service to TSSAA extended beyond the playing field. In 1968, he was selected by the Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club as the Outstanding Prep Official, a testament to his influence and dedication. That same year, he took on the role of Director of the TSSAA State Cross Country Meet, further demonstrating his commitment to high school sports. Additionally, Ward founded the A.F. Bridges Cross Country Meet in 1968, contributing to the growth and development of the sport at the high school level.

Junior Ward's induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 1999 was a recognition of his extensive service and dedication to high school athletics in Tennessee. His contribution as an official, teacher, and coach has left an indelible mark on the TSSAA and the many students and athletes he mentored over the years.
