Robert A. Harris Jr., celebrated for his substantial contributions to high school athletics, was inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 1996, underlining a prolific career spanning from 1951 to 1990. Born on December 30, 1923, Harris devoted 39 years of his life to coaching and teaching, primarily at Woodbury Central High School, where his expertise significantly influenced young athletes. His service as a girls' basketball coach brought unparalleled excellence to the program, showcasing an impressive record of 582 wins against 263 losses, a testament to his strategy and dedication.

Harris's tenure at Woodbury Central High School was marked by numerous achievements, including winning 11 district titles, 4 region titles, and making 7 TSSAA State Tournament appearances. The pinnacle of his career was leading his team to victory in the 1989 TSSAA State Championship, an accomplishment complemented by three runner-up finishes in the state tournament. These achievements did not go unnoticed, as his ability to nurture talent led to 6 of his players being named All-State and 17 earning All Mid-State honors. Distinctively, one of his athletes, Julie Powell, was named Miss Basketball in 1989, highlighting Harris's influence in developing top-tier athletes.
