Burrell H. Crowell, born on November 22, 1924, embarked on a notable career that spanned decades in education and sports officiating, culminating in his 1985 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. From 1946 until his retirement in 1989, Crowell served as a TSSAA official, earning accolades for his commitment and fairness on the field and court. His tenure of 43 years as an official is a testament to his dedication and love for high school sports in Tennessee. Notably, he was a regular official at the TSSAA State Basketball Tournament, where he officiated seven times, displaying his exceptional ability to manage games with fairness and integrity.

Outside his duties on the playing field, Crowell also made significant contributions as an educator and school administrator for an equally impressive 43 years. He held principal positions at several schools, including Beech Grove Junior High School, McCord School in Lewisburg, TN, and Connelly Junior High School. His leadership extended beyond the local level as he took on the role of Supervisor for the South Central Officials’ Association for 13 years, further influencing sports officiating quality and standards within the region.

Crowell’s work garnered recognition beyond the educational and sports communities. The 93rd General Assembly honored him for his extensive career in education and sports, a noteworthy acknowledgment of his impact across different spheres. Moreover, in 1996, he was recognized as an outstanding alumni of Middle Tennessee State University, underscoring his alma mater's pride in his accomplishments.

Burrell Crowell passed away on May 24, 1996, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to high school sports and education in Tennessee. His induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 1985 was a fitting tribute to a man who devoted his life to fostering athletic talent and academic achievement among Tennessee's youth.
