William C. "Bill" Battle's career in sports, notably as a TSSAA official, spanned over four rich decades, earning him a respected place in the annals of Tennessee high school sports history. Born on May 20, 1935, Battle dedicated 42 years of his life to officiating in the TSSAA from 1959 until his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2001, a testament to his enduring commitment and passion for high school sports.

In his illustrious career, Battle made significant contributions to football, which included officiating at numerous state playoffs and a TSSAA State Championship Game. His expertise and fairness on the field underscored the integrity of the games he officiated, making him a revered figure among athletes, coaches, and spectators alike.
