Don Barry, born on February 15, 1937, embarked on a notable career with the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) that led to his prestigious induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2004. Barry's considerable contributions to high school sports began in 1967 when he became a TSSAA official, a role he proudly held throughout his career.

Initially, Barry officiated in football, basketball, and baseball—demonstrating a versatile commitment to high school athletics. He was on the football field from 1967 and continued his service in this capacity. His tenure in basketball lasted from 1967 to 1982, and he contributed to baseball officiating between 1969 and 1972. His dedication to maintaining the integrity and spirit of high school sports was unwavering throughout these years.

In addition to his on-field roles, Barry took on significant supervisory and administrative responsibilities within the TSSAA. Notably, he served as the TSSAA Supervisor for the North Middle Tennessee Football Officials’ Association starting in 2000, a position he retained. Furthermore, Barry was appointed as the TSSAA Assigning Officer for the North Middle Tennessee Officials’ Association in 1969, showcasing his leadership in ensuring that games were fairly and efficiently officiated.

Barry's excellence and dedication to high school sports in Tennessee did not go unrecognized. Among his numerous accolades, he received the National Federation of High School Associations (NFHS) Distinguished Service Award in 1992 and the TSSAA Distinguished Service Award in 1996. These honors highlighted his unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions to high school athletics.

Beyond his sports officiating accomplishments, Barry was actively involved in his community and held several leadership positions that underscored his commitment to service and leadership. This included notable roles such as president of local organizations and service on various boards and foundations. His induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2004 was a fitting tribute to his outstanding career and dedication to high school sports in Tennessee.
