  • Instrumental in assisting in racially integrating Alcoa High School in 1965
  • Coached first black athletes in an integrated school in Blount County
  • Played football and basketball at East Tennessee State University
  • Served 3 years as Head Football Coach and Athletic Director at Emory and Henry College in Emory, VA (1957 – 1960)
  • Awarded the City of Alcoa Diamond Anniversary Award for his dedicated service to Alcoa as Superintendent, Principal, Coach, and Teacher in 1995
  • City of Alcoa declared November 26 – December 2, 1995 as “Bill Bailey Week” and he was featured on “Profiles of Blount County” in 1996
  • Served on the Blount County Board of Education from 1990 until his death in 1996
  • Inaugural Inductee into the Blount County Hall of Fame in November of 1996
  • 1953 Roy N. Lodwich Coach of the Year Award for the state in 1954
  • Lettered in 4 sports in high school
  • Alcoa First United Methodist Church named a scholarship fund in his honor, the “Bill Bailey Scholarship Fund” to help young people go to college
