  • Registered TSSAA football official for over 40 years and worked in 8 playoff games

  • Served 3 terms on the Lewisburg City Council

  • The mayor of Lewisburg declared June 11, 2001 as “Willie J. Mitchell Day”

  • Received the NAACP Award of Excellence in 2002

  • Was named the Lewisburg Citizen of the Year in 2013

  • Was honored with a monument at Jones Park in Lewisburg in 2015
