  • Played basketball and football at Springfield High School.  His football coach was Boyce Smith, a member of both the TSSAA and National High School halls of fame.
  • Played basketball at Emory and Henry College in Emory, Virginia
  • Served on the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Softball Rules Committee
  • NFHS Citizenship Committee
  • NFHS Equity Committee
  • Served on the NFHS Football Rules Committee for 22 years
  • Chairman of the NFHS Football Football Rules Research Subcommittee
  • Received the NFHS National Citation in 2002
  • During his tenure at TSSAA, he carried responsibilities in football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, and cross-country
  • Responsible for the registration and training of game officials
  • Oversaw the “Just Do What’s Right” sportsmanship program and the A. F. Bridges Award program
  • Responsible for the tracking of unsportsmanlike incidents
  • Wrote the “Looseball” column in the TSSAA News for 20 years
  • His daily duties at TSSAA included interpretation of TSSAA eligibility rules, its by-laws, and constitution
