  • The John Overton Football Alumni Association recognized William J. Stanfield for 25 years of selfless service and dedication to John Overton High School (September 12, 2003)
  • Nashville Class A Coach of the Year (1958 – 59)
  • Nashville Administrator of the Year in 1988
  • Retired in June of 1990—spent 41 years as a teacher, coach, and administrator
  • Received “Distinguished Service Award” from Tennessee High School Athletic Association in 1991
  • Inducted into Region VI Football Hall of Fame as Administrator in 1992
  • Inducted into Region VI Basketball Hall of Fame as Administrator in 1994
  • Inducted into Milligan College Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999, for his outstanding accomplishments and contributions to Milligan athletics
  • In 1985, McDonald’s established “The Bill Stanfield Scholarship” in the amount of $1,000 for students at John Overton High School
  • During his tenured years (1954 – 1990), Mr. Stanfield served on many committees for the Metropolitan Board of Education including both Desegregation Committees, Salary Committee, and Curriculum Advisory Committee
