The following events occurred during Mr. Perry’s tenure as Principal of Haywood County High School:

  • Haywood County High School was cited for excellence by the United States Department of Education
  • In February of 1986, Haywood hosted the first Tennessee Academic Decathlon competition
  • In 1988, Haywood County High School was named one of Tennessee’s 10 great schools by Governor Ned McWhirter
  • Haywood worked with the local Board of Education to develop HHS Distinguished Scholars Program

Other Honors:

  • Statewide Athletic Director of the Year by the Tennessee Athletic Director Association—1989
  • In 1990, Mr. Perry was a nominee for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association National Athletic Director of the Year
  • NIAAA State Award of Merit—1990 and 1993
  • National Federation State High School Associations (NFHS) Citation Award in 1992
