  • Coach Merrell was awarded the “Scrappy Moore Volleyball Coach of the Year” 4 consecutive years (1976, 1977, 1978, 1979)
  • Overall “Scrappy Moore Volleyball Coach of the Year” in the Chattanooga Area in 1979
  • Spearheaded efforts to sanction volleyball in the state of Tennessee
  • District and Region Chairman and Tournament Director from 1976 – 1979
  • Her teams won the first 4 TSSAA State Volleyball Tournaments
  • In 1985, Coach Merrell received the Honor Award by the Tennessee Association of Health and Physical Education
  • 1994—TAHPER Life Fellow Award by Tennessee Association of Health and Physical Education
  • Inducted into the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame
