  • Nominated for US High School Coach of the Year from Tennessee in 1970
  • Coached the 1970 Tennessee West All-Stars to a 62 – 57 victory over the East All-Stars
  • 5 players from Lawson’s 1971 State Championship team were awarded college scholarships
  • Lawson was a high-school All-American at Pearl High School in Nashville (1958 – 1959)
  • Lawson’s Pearl High teams compiled a 69 – 4 record over his career
  • Biggest win as high school coach was the night Cameron beat Pearl High School (Lawson’s alma mater) to end a 52-game winning streak, one of the longest in prep school history
  • Played basketball at UCLA under legendary coach John Wooden
  • Played on UCLA Freshman basketball team under Coach Jerry Norman and former University of Louisville coaching legend Denny Crum
  •  Coach Lawson served as head men’s basketball coach at Fisk University (1971 – 1979) and is the all-time winningest coach percentage-wise, winning 67% of his games
  • 75% of Lawson’s Fisk players graduated
  • Named City College Coach of the Year and SIAC Coach of the Year in 1974
  • A scholarship is named after him at Fisk University
  • Played semi-professional basketball for the Harlem Magicians and the Nashville Shamrocks
  • 2002 Nominee for Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame
  • 2002 Nominee O’Charley’s Lifetime Achievement Award
  • The Cameron Middle School gymnasium is named the “Ronald Lawson, Sr. Gymnasium of Champions” in his honor
