Jim Brown embarked on an illustrious coaching career in 1992 when he was appointed as the head girls' basketball coach at Jackson Co. High School. Over the years, his dedication to excellence and his strategy on the court have significantly shaped the path of girls' basketball in the institution and the larger Tennessee community. Brown's career record, as of the 2021-22 season, stands as a testament to his prowess and determination, boasting 641 wins against 306 losses. Under his guidance, the Lady Blue Devils have made 13 noteworthy trips to the TSSAA State Tournament.

Jim Brown's tenure at Jackson Co. High School is particularly distinguished by his teams' impressive achievements in the TSSAA State Championships. His teams clinched 7 championships in the years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2008, 2010, and 2013, with a remarkable run of 4 consecutive championships from 2000 to 2003. Moreover, his teams have been runners-up 4 times, revealing a competitive consistency at the state level. Their overall record at the state tournament boasts 30 victories against only 6 losses, a record that highlights Brown’s ability to elevate his teams’ performance when it matters most.

Beyond individual game success, Jim Brown's coaching philosophy has fostered a culture of excellence within his teams, leading to numerous district and region championships. Five of his players have been honored with the prestigious TSSAA Miss Basketball award, reflecting Brown’s knack not just for winning but also for developing talent.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to high school basketball and his exemplary service to TSSAA, Jim Brown was inducted into the Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2019. Furthermore, his consistent success and impact on and off the court have earned him the Herald-Citizen Upper Cumberland Coach of the Year award nine times. In 2022, his legacy was further cemented with his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame, a fitting accolade for a coach who has given so much to Tennessee high school athletics.
