For 20 years, Herbert served as a baseball supervisor of officials in the Memphis/Shelby County area, contributing significantly to the development and supervision of umpiring standards within the region. Additionally, he was a longstanding member of the Mid-South Football Officials Association, where he took charge of the education committee for new football officials. This role highlighted his commitment to nurturing the next generation of referees, ensuring they upheld the high standards for which Herbert and his colleagues strove.

Adding to his expansive resume, Herbert had been a crucial figure in baseball for the TSSAA since 1994, overseeing officials and ensuring games ran smoothly and fairly. Further exemplifying his commitment to excellence in sports officiating, he also served as a Site Director for baseball at Spring Fling for over ten years, playing a vital role in one of TSSAA's premier events.
