In 1951, with General Robert Neyland in attendance, the citizens of Morristown bestowed upon Siler a new 1951 Mercury automobile on “Petie Siler Night” for his length of service
In 1966, Siler was honored again by the citizens of Morristown proclaiming November 4 as “Petie Siler Day”.
Siler played football in high school, and was named to the All-City/County teams 3 seasons; also won state track and field championship in the 100 and 220 yard dashes
Coach Siler owned and ran Peneto Swimming Pool, and used his players as lifeguards and to upkeep the pool area in the summers to make sure they stayed in shape
Coach Siler added bowling lanes to the community and hosted leagues for men and women; he did this blind until his death in 1972
