  • Named the Tennessean Mid-State Boys’ Coach of the Year in 1976
  • Attended the University of Mississippi on a full basketball scholarship from 1969 – 1973
  • Led the Southeastern Conference in Free Throw Percentage in 1972
  • Served on the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents (TOSS) Board for 12 years
  • Was TOSS President in 2002, and served as TOSS secretary for six years
  • Named South Central Superintendent of the Year in 2004
  • Was a four-year starter on the Perry County Vikings basketball team, and received many special honors for his achievements
